Rahul's Final Project

With facial recognition software getting better, and algorithms that analyze facial structures getting more and more complex, people have started developing creative ways of evading facial recognition and keeping their privacy. The reason that I have decided to choose this prompt as compared to the other prompts is because the way that facial recognition has progressed in recent years and its increasingly significant role in society is something that interests me.

The first method of facial recognition can be considered the easiest and most common, using unsymmetrical pigmentation and obstructive haircuts, one can effectively prevent facial recognition software from being able to identify a human face. The facial recognition software uses "landmarks" found on the face to differentiate faces, by changing or obstructing the natural landmarks on ones face, he or she can fool the algorithm into thinking that their face is someone else's.

2.Special, Computer Confusing Fabric

The first method of facial recognition can be considered the easiest and most common, using unsymmetrical pigmentation and obstructive haircuts, one can effectively prevent facial recognition software from being able to identify a human face. The facial recognition software uses "landmarks" found on the face to differentiate faces, by changing or obstructing the natural landmarks on ones face, he or she can fool the algorithm into thinking that their face is someone else's.

Because computers eventually reduce the faces that they are analyzing to a series of simplified structures, people have started developing specially patterned fabrics that are designed to mimic the images that the computers are used to normally seeing. To a computer, the image above would distract the computer into thinking that the fabric itself is the face to be analyzed.

4.Just Cover Up!

While it may seem obvious, just covering up your face with the classic combination of a Ralph Lauren bucket hat and Balenciaga shades is enough to throw off most facial recognition softwares.

3. IR Glasses

While I am not personally an owner of infrared glasses, I did attach a high power LED to a pair of old sunglasses to create the same effect. Infrared glasses, which were shown in the recent movie Baby Driver (where the first image is from) basically overexpose the security camera yielding a result similar to the one in the second picture.

5.Surround Yourself With Green Light

While it may seem obvious, just covering up your face with the classic combination of a Ralph Lauren bucket hat and Balenciaga shades is enough to throw off most facial recognition softwares.

Being that green light is on the longer side of the light spectrum, it is the most likely to overexpose a camera and not allow it to make the correct identification. While it may mean wearing more green clothing, this method is by far one of the most creative ways of keeping your identity secure.
