To get past this obstacle, a new user could make multiple accounts to up their follower count.  In order to make multiple accounts, the person needs multiple unique emails.  Instead of making a ton of accounts on an existing server, like Google or Yahoo, they can create a business domain to keep all the accounts on their own server.  Using Bluehost, the user can create a domain to host your email addresses for $2.95/month (1).  This would allow them to create as many accounts as they want to connect with user profiles that need unique emails.  These accounts can now be used for whatever purpose the user wants.

Since the user has so many accounts, it can be difficult and time consuming to keep track of them.  The accounts can mostly just be filler accounts, to bump up the amount of followers of the main account.  But this doesn’t translate directly into more followers.  So some of the accounts have to be able to like the main account’s posts while others have to comment on the photos.

Once the user’s main account has gained enough real followers to compare to the fake followers they created, they can get rid of the fake accounts in order to fix their analytics, which would show that some of the followers weren’t real people, which advertisers would take notice of.  This would bring down the amount of followers the main account has, but since there are now real followers as well, these followers would support the account and continue to gain it more followers.

Wednesday at 5pm being the most ideal (3).  Of course, posts have to be able to get the attention of new people, not just existing followers.  Using a few, relevent hashtags seems to be the best way to do this.  To few and people won’t find the post, too many and people see it disingenuous.  By sticking to these guidelines of posting, the user would be able to build and maintain their following.

Once the user has established a large, legit foundation of followers, they can reach out to employers and advertisers to offer their account as an advertising outlet.

Manipulating Instagram to get Brand Deals

Since brands don’t want to pay someone to advertise their product if no one is going to see it, they will only offer people with at least a certain amount of followers a deal.  Often, it is difficult to get started on Instagram.  Pretty much the only way to get followers is to follow other people and hope they follow back.  People could also use hashtags to find posts they might like, but the photos that show up first are the ones that have the most likes, which means those accounts have the most followers, which a starting account doesn’t have.

To gain a large following takes work.  The photos have to actually be good and interesting, but they should also be consistent, both with their content and times of posts. “A good Instagram presence means consistent, tasteful photo posts and captions. The bigger your Instagram portfolio, the better” (2).  There are certain times of the day that give posts more attention. On average, the best times to post on Instagram are 2pm and 5pm EST, with
